What is a Dragon Fruit Dali?

A purebred, NIB Dalmatian carrying pink and black eyes in their genes!

I've named them Dragon Fruit Dalmatians because a) it sounds awesome but mainly b) simply because dragon fruit is pink, white and black on the inside! The theme of 'inside' also works because it reflects this project's focus on the genes of the Dalis, what they're carrying as well as what is expressed.

Some of my favourite dogs to come out of my original Dalmatian breeding project were Kuro (6th gen) and Shiro (8th gen), both of whom went on to gain SGCh status in forum showing! Though my initial goal was ginger eyes, the endurance of the pink eyes plus the surprise appearance of Kuro with black, planted the seeds for my next Dalmatian breeding goal: a Dalmatian carrying both pink and black eyes! I felt this would be a cool secondary outcome of the

project, as pink and black colours make up the original project page with the pink background and black and white dali images! (So I've subconsciously been manifesting this from the beginning, clearly!) While Kuro and Shiro have black and pink eyes respectively, they do not carry both. So we need to bring some more Dalis to this project!

New Gen 7s: Bobby & Brodie

Daugther of Momoiro and a recent addition called Aida, Bobby carries Momo's pink eyes. She also carries white lids.

Brodie

Kuro's son, Brodie also carries white lids and has inherited Kuro's black eyes, perfect for this side-project

Bobby and Brodie are our new gen 7 pair, born from new pairings in my lines that were selected specifically to ensure the passing of these traits, whilst still staying non-inbred! This breeding resulted in a lot of new Dalmatians for my crew who you can see on my Dali Soda-Squad page! Brodie carries a spot-lacking quality, which as you'll see, has expressed in a few of his children.

New Gen 8s  in Pink & Black: Dragon Fruits

Here are some of the pups from Bobby and Brodie that carry pink and black eyes only! My Dragon Fruit Dalis, they are the most specific Dalmatians I've bred yet!

Auctioned on P.U.G.S

Frenemy was from the first litter to have both pink and black eyes in their genes, as shown in the GenePoolz pic below. The screenshot from

LNZ Pro shows that Frenemy is NIB and gen 8. (I won't show screenshots for every dog because you get the gist!) Frenemy is named for the contrasting colour stereotypes of 'friendly' pink and 'hostile' black. She is also named after a short-lived and drama-filled YouTube podcast which if you know, you know. Frenemy was my first auction on P.U.G.S - I love any opportunity to send my Dalis out into the community hehe.

Here's where Brodie's spot-lacking gene comes in, Pluto has no spots at all! His black eyes look really effective against his spotless coat. You might be wondering how a spotless Dali could be like a dragon fruit which is fair enough, but Pluto does carry pink eyes so there is enough pink and black in his genes to qualify imo!

Diaeresis (dramatically pronounced 'die heiresses' [Dragon Fruit Dalis are very dramatic]) is also spot-lacking, with only two spots, both on his right front leg! He gets his name from the two-dot accent that is put over certain vowels (like in naïve). He was gifted as a birthday present to another Dali breeder!

More spot-lacking! Locket has just one spot on her left elbow. Like Pluto, I love the effect of Locket's eyes against her (mostly) spotless coat. In Dali pose she looks spotless, and so her single spot becomes her secret, hidden away.

A Dragon Fruit Dalmatian called Dragon Fruit?? Yes, naming this lady is what gave me the title for this project overall and inspired me to make a dedicated page! She's a lot more spotty than her siblings and so suits her name very well.

And a few more!

Once you've got a good thing going, it's difficult to stop breeding litters! I haven't decided what I'll do yet with these unnamed Dragon Fruit Dali pups, but I'm sure I'll post some updates when I do!

What next?

My dream would be to have a NIB breeding pair with exclusively pink and black eyes so that their offspring would almost always have pink and black eyes in their gene pool. To do this though, I would have to create a whole new line of 254 (!) Dalis and hope that pink and black eye colours happen to appear! It will probably be a while before I attempt that again! Alternatively, I could see if any other Dalmatian breeders have their own pink and/or black lines - this is definitely the more possible option and if I go ahead, I will be sure to post updates!

In the meantime, I've been experimenting with a liver spotted OW and making my own different colour spot OWs. You can see the resulting new crew members on my Dali Soda-Squad page! I'm definitely not done with breeding Dalis just yet!

Thank you!

Thank you for joining me again on my ongoing Dalmatian breeding journey! I always have too much fun making these pages! It's not much, but here is a stamp if you would like. I'll be making some more soon!
